4D Sensor for civil infrastructure damage monitoring

The world’s fastest scanner for bridge maintenance


This system is based on results obtained from a project commissioned by the
New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization(NEDO).

Background

Aging civil infrastructure like old concrete bridges is becoming a worldwide problem. The best way to prevent catastrophic accidents is conducting proper inspections. However, conventional bridge inspection is difficult work which requires special equipment and skills.

Summary

The amount of deflection with respect to the bridge load is determined by design. ‘4D Sensor for Bridge’ is a product that measures strain, cracks and shapes of bridges.
4D means 3D x Time (x, y, z, t). The 4D Sensor can scan 3D point cloud data (x, y, z) at an ultra-high speed of 50,000 times per second. Then, the sensor measures the deflection with high precision using moiré fringes.

DEVICE

4D Sensor for Bridge is SMALL, NON-CONTACT, DISTANT, HIGH-SPEED and HIGH-PRECISION.

One promising application is drone bridge inspection. A drone using 4D Sensor for Bridge can capture 3D shapes and detect cracks.
